The season of special occasion gatherings is upon us and between now and December 31 you may have a few moments when you want to withdraw from the festive world, shut the door, and wait to return to life after Ground Hog Day…maybe?
Let me encourage you to stop what you’re doing right now and go on and have a moment of prayer as you process all that is coming your way…
I desire for You to take my breath away more than I allow the busyness of life to do. Help me to pause everyday to take in the wonder of You as Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. As I begin to see the signs of Thanksgiving and Christmas, help me to see them as reminders to spend time with You everyday. Help me to evaluate how I spend the resources of time and money you have given me. I pledge to not fall into the trap of comparison as cards, invitations, lists, and talk of plans inundates my home, my phone, and my mind. I pledge to be still when my spirit senses my body and soul getting overwhelmed as I try to make everybody happy and in so doing, sacrifice my own peace of mind and even time with You. It’s not the way I want to enter this season. I know that in Your strength I can regain the proper perspective in order to truly worship You as I ponder anew what an amazing gift You bestowed on all mankind in Your Son Jesus. – Amen
I am already in the midst of shopping, planning meals, and thinking about how to communicate our plans when others want them to coincide with theirs. I’m already slightly stressed.
So, I’ve been thinking about how to do it differently this year.
Here’s how I will handle the stress that comes my way:
- Prayed up – so I can keep my focus on Him.
- Planned up – so I am purposeful in the season, having realistic expectations.
- Paired up – with my husband so I can be accountable for my expectations.
- Positive – influencing those with whom I have contact with the Good News of Jesus.
Just a few simple, good steps to insert peace into my busyness this year. What steps are you going to take?
