Already Behind?

How are you doing today?

That’s a question you may be asked off and on throughout any given day.  Depending upon who is asking your answer may be vague and polite or all too honest.

I’m asking that question of you if you have recently committed to studying the Bible.  My question could have been more specific like, “How are your quiet times?”  Or, it could have been, “So, how are you liking this Bible study you’re in?”

I can remember my past Bible study leaders asking me that last question and I never answered it correctly.  My answer was usually, “Well, I’m already behind.”  The more correct answer would have been any of the following:

  • I am realizing how ignorant I have been of the Bible for toooooooooo long, and I am disappointed in myself.
  • I am a spiritual slug.  I see how lazy I have been when it came to making personal time in the Bible a priority.
  • This is an answer to prayer, but what in the world have I gotten myself into for goodness’ sake!?
  • I can’t seem to get all the answers.  So, I don’t think I should keep coming.  You all seem so smart.

Other correct and more optimistic answers could have been:

  • It’s a challenge, but God is teaching me so much!
  • I am falling in love with God all over again.
  • I don’t get all my lesson done, but I am seeing so much to apply in my life.
  • My sons are learning it with me and it is FUN to share it with them and hear them repeat it back.
  • I am more content than I have been in a very long time.  I know it’s because of spending whatever time I have available, to study for Jesus.

What about you?  What are your answers to, “How is that Bible study going?”  If yours are negative responses, try to find a way to see the optimism in what you are able to get done.  Do you see any change in your thinking?  Do you feel closer to God?  Are you more aware of His big picture?  Do you see Him in the details?

Well?  What’s your answer?

  1. Goodmorning Amy,

I just wanted to share the wonderful things you miss without Bible Study. You miss the warm surrounding of wonderful loving strong Christian woman. You miss hearing What God has revealed to different woman in the study during the week. You miss the teaching of Amy and Kay(two great woman by the way). You miss the accountablity that bible study class brings you.

So no matter where you are in your study hang in there!! God will provide. I think I am preaching to my self, but I am coming back. I promise.

    Love you Amy.

  2. I think of the above responses fit me except for the one about not coming back. Yes, I do feel Bible ignorant, but it is Never too late to start. Thank you Amy for being such a wonderful teacher and taking me under wing and I have a great group of supporters! I am looking forward to more Bible studies…if I can get through the one I am in now..LOL!!! Thank you Amy for all that you do. Love ya, Jane
