Christmas (Messianic) Prophecy #7

Messiah was to be tried and condemned
Isaiah 53:8

By oppression and judgment He was taken away;
And as for His generation, who considered
That He was cut off out of the land of the living
For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?

The fulfillment is recorded in Luke 23:1-25.

It was in Luke 23:18-25 that we see the people “vote” to spare a known murderer and keep him in their midst as opposed to sparing the Messiah.

But here I have to remind myself, again, of God’s plan in bringing His Son to earth in order to save sinful man from the penalty of sin, eternal separation from Him.

I said it yesterday. Jesus was born to die. I have been reminded over and over of His purpose in life as I’ve studied Hebrews. I have grown more aware of this “ultimate” Christmas gift. Some group has written such a song about the purpose of Jesus’ life. I need to go look at my iPod so I can remember who it is and perhaps include it at some point on this blog.

I know God knew all this would happen to His Son. I am still frustrated, angry, call it what you will, that the people who had rejoiced at His triumphal entry into Jerusalem would prefer to “do Him in” in order for their genuine murderer comrade to be spared.

They preferred what they wanted over what was right. Gosh, I’m glad that doesn’t happen anymore. Huh? WRONG!

And Jesus came into the world because of this very problem. It’s called sin. Messiah came to save us from its penalty. Praise Him for His willingness to do what He had to do and what no one else and no animal’s blood could do.
