“And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ And He said, ‘Write, for these words are faithful and true.’ “Revelation 21:5 NASB-95

It’s that time of year when you’ll read numerous blog titles and bypass them because they are similar in subject matter.  It’s a new year!

So why should you take the time to read my post today?

I prayed for an epiphany and got one.  After all, it is the season of Epiphany on the Church calendar.

Each birthday/new year, I begin to think about my upcoming planning day for the year ahead.  I take some time to be alone and spend the day with God, my Bible, my computer, paper, and tissues for the tears that usually fall.  I’ll make a pot of tea and begin my “date” with God.

I like to go into the day with a word for the upcoming year, a word that I pray is divinely inspired.  In past years, words such as “intentional” and “simplify” have been the dominating themes for the year approaching.

As Rob and I made our way to church yesterday, I shared with him my word for this year.  Then, as I sat in the pew waiting for the service to begin, God began to clarify more of that word and I sat with my new 2012 Moleskine planner/journal open and wrote until its small page was filled.

During this Epiphany time when we remember the Magi making their way to God incarnate, my private time in our church was filled with an epiphany of clarity as I prepare for a new year and look forward to my D.A.W.G. (Day Alone With God) day.

This first Monday of a new year is a happy day.  It is in the bright blue skies and crisp cold air that I embrace a FRESH outlook and I look forward to sharing more of that FRESH epiphany with you in the days ahead.
I say, “Yea for a new year and a FRESH PERSPECTIVE!”  It is said with genuine hope and an attitude of excitement as 364 more days (don’t forget it’s Leap Year) lie in front of me as I trust God knowing that He knows what is ahead for this girl.

Happy new year!

Pray about a summary word for your year ahead.
Opportunity for Response:

Share what that word is.  What does that word prompt in you as you face the year ahead?

  1. Reading today’s post reminded me of something I forgot to share with you at your Birthday Breakfast in Pine Mtn. I stumbled on a discarded advance copy of Debbie Macomber’s newly released non-fiction book, One Perfect Word. Her practice of focusing on one word each year made me think of you. And, I don’t think I knew you were doing that! I’ve been trying to think of what my 2012 word will be. Haven’t settled on it yet.

  2. Hey Sister,
I will have to read that book. I hope you saved it?! Wish we could have turned that day into a whole weekend, minus the compression sleeve appointment. : ) Obviously, we missed out on some vital info. I enjoyed the day even though we could still be sitting in that booth on a caffeine high and still not have caught up. Such is the blessing of biological and spiritual sisterhood. You bless me! I love you so!

  3. Yes, still have the book. When I finish it, I’ll send it along. The blessing is mutual!! I love you, too!

  4. Thank you!

  5. I have my word – Reduction.
