Photo Challenge Day 3 – Macro Photography

Posted by on Jul 15, 2015 in Blog Posts | 0 comments

I know it is the day’s end, but I was able to practice Macro photography late this afternoon and it took me a bit to familiarize myself with my camera settings.

So I took several photos that flopped. In macro photos, according to the tips I studied on the SITSgirls blog, I needed to focus up close on an object and its details allowing the background to be blurry.

After quite a few shots and various settings practicing with the macro feature on my camera, I managed to snap pictures of some yarn currently in project mode for a shawl. I placed it on a west facing table situated in front of a window looking out onto a cluster of magnolia trees with a street in the distance.

Then I took several trying to show the variation in the yarn. For some reason the color appears more green and I’m not sure why. The color above is more accurate.  I love yarns that have personality and this one is no exception. If you look close enough, you just might see the ball of yarn sending a little love back.  Can you find the heart shape?

I was given an orchid several years ago. I ended up naming it, “Selah”. Its white flowers have bloomed prolifically followed by periods of dormancy. It’s on its latest bloom cycle that appears to be ending soon. Three blooms are lingering on a long cascading stem and as I walked past it with camera in hand, it seemed to call out to me to follow its name’s meaning and pause for a minute. So I stopped in the hallway banked with eastern windows to capture the orchid and I ended up with two pictures of Selah that make me love this orchid all over again.

Today was a fun day learning and practicing, albeit a rather short session, but fun anyway. I look forward to trying this again.
